Best hotels/places to stay in Hawaii ?
Eurotrip. What backpack to carry on plane?
Oh definitely still book through Amex Travel even if the same price to get the points! Just call the hotel or airline after to make sure they didn’t screw it up! Also if you’re going to miss a flight you can call the airline before the plane leaves and likely get put on the next flight even if your tickets were non-refundable! Amex Travel told me nothing they could do because the flight was leaving in 20 minutes but I was able to get ahold of customer service for the airline during that time and they just changed my ticket for me.

So so helpful. Thank you!!!
Keep an eye on any flights you book through them. Terrible about notifying you of changes

Yikes, okay. Not enough reason to go direct though…right? The difference is roughly $1000pp 🤣
Yes, and this is a big watch out. AMEX Travel is NOT Amex. They are individual travel agents/ companies that work under the AMEX umbrella. I lost $3,000 in flights because of this and got nothing but runaround’s when dealing with “AMEX”. I had booked flights through AMEX travel to the UK on British Airlines. Turns out the flights were actually codeshare on American Airlines which isn’t uncommon. When it came time to check in , I found out my flight had been canceled some time before without notice or rebooking. I called AMEX travel who acknowledged my initial had been canceled and not reassigned. This agent worked really hard to get us on a same day flight. We were dealing with the COVID testing 72 hour timeline and would have had to retest to take a flight for any other day.
We get to LAX the next day, 3 hours before our flight, for baggage check and documentation verification. The line for American Airlines was truly out the door and they only had 2 agents working to check bags. After an hour in line with very little movement , I got on the phone with AMEX travel and advised them of our status and asked if we could be protected on the later flight that evening in the event we were delayed due to checking staffing. They assured me we should make our flight and could only move us to the later flight if I payed an extra $2,000 since British airways wasn’t reporting any delays (but we were codeshare on American). I declined.
We finally made it to the agent with 30 minutes before DEPARTURE and were told we couldn’t take our flight because our baggage wouldn’t make the flight since baggage and passengers couldn’t travel on different flights. The agents directed us to the customer service line for assistance. That line was longer. I called AMEX travel again and their suggestion was to call the airline directly since British airways again reported no issues. I told them that I booked through them and they need to support me which is when I found out that they didn’t book anything for me, they were only a subcontractor to AMEX and there was very little they could actually do.
There is actually no way to get in touch with American Express travel and I’m not convinced it really exists. Any time you call, you are routed to a subcontractor not actually American Express. This creates confusion, disconnected information, and no accountability by AMEX.
Bottom line, I’m out $3,000, my vacation to the UK, and my AMEX card canceled.
