Got messaged by a C3 . ai recruiter. Read that wlb is bad and that the interview process is absurdly long, but the Glassdoor reviews are 4.2 and can't find actual hours worked posted by anyone. How's the culture really? I'd be aiming for DS consulting, something more functional but with DS/ML concepts as my differentiator.

Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

You have time for 2 jobs?!?
I mean, forget that it’s unethical, who has the self harm activated to want to do this?
Why is it unethical?
Great way to get fired. Already watch another consultant get fired as there is a non compete clause.
Private…every employer in this industry has a non compete for similar ‘side’ jobs. You can drive for Uber or Lyft (in some, but not all cases) however you certainly cannot be an independent consultant doing analytics work if that’s what your employer pays you for as OP is insinuating.
Depending on how intensive the ask is and the deadline I would charge $250/hour in the DMV.
You might need to know the scope of your side project and the deliverables. The tricky part is you need to make sure you have time for the side project. As the side project progress, sometimes the work load increases. Make sure you communicate with your client that your max workload you can take on.
How did you go about getting your first clients?
SM1, this is bad advice and as SAP said, a great way to get fired. My firm would fire you on the spot for doing what you say no one cares about.
Coach
I have a specific non-compete for a startup that will never hire my firm, nor would my firm go after because they arent big enough. I worked for the startup long before I started consulting. Minimal side work, but solid mad money. One day I may be rich, but unlikely.
Take your salary, divide by 1000 if you’re good or 500 if you’re awesome
