Maybe something got flagged to them and it’s something they have to reach out about? But most likely they are just doing their due diligence with past employers. I doubt agencies are sticking their necks out legally to screw you. And as long as you didn’t do anything illegal, why does it matter? Many people have had a job they’ve not left on the best terms with.

We have never filed a complaint even with some of the worst experiences of employees leaving. As employers we should say nothing about former employees if companies call us. HR usually stays silent. So then the question comes “would you hire them again?” They can say yes or no without much context.
