Guys there’s this boot camp that I came across that trains people to get jobs in Top consulting firms and has a fee plan wherein you pay once you get placed. I just wanted to know if someone here has any experience with this ?

Good lord. I've been here ten years. Take the vacation and be all in when you're actually there. PwC did not have massive layoffs this year - we hit, as a firm, our targets. Which tells you resourcing plan and revenue plan were aligned. Did they push out some lower performers and some people in particular areas that were overweight? Of course, like every firm every year. Yes, there is an increased focus on metrics and profitability coming from the top - but you should still take vacation.
I've taken my vacation, and gotten 1s and 2s (along with raises, bonuses and promotions),
I've not taken my vacation, and ended up with 3s (even though I had above 100% utilization).
I know people that have made it to Director in 8 years, and they have taken their vacations year after year.
If you're in a situation where your utilization would materially impact your rating tier, that is a problem that not taking your vacation is not going to solve.
If you're relying solely on your utilization alone to carry you through a CRT, you don't know how the game is played.
Someone that meets their minimum utilization target and is doing all of the other things that the firm asks you to do is more likely to get a 1 than someone that crushes their utilization target, but only does that.
Interesting... taking vacation helps our utilization metric, and can be used as a last resort when close to being laid off.
Glad we don't track vacation that way...we just have a tenure clock, e.g. I'm a 2+1 Asc = I've been here for 2 years and 1 month...
Holy shit, not one person from PwC that has said that our vacation is BUILT INTO the utilization calculations? That's coming from:
1.) Experience (been here 6 years)
2.) HR
3.) Friends at the MD & Partner level
Stay off the bench and take your fucking vacation. If you do the first, you won't have an issue doing the second. Not staying staffed (at least 40 hours a week) when you are not on vacation will hurt you far more than taking the vacation time you are allotted each year.
Bill 45 each week. Actually bill ACTUAL HOURS. There would be zero issues if we all did that from a metric perspective for us but bet the D and P would be beyond mad at their low margin.
If you take vacation while on the project your utilization will be lower as compared to not taking that vacation. With all the utilization pressure and people getting laid off for low utilization, this is a very valid concern.
Fuck util man. Vacay is way more important. They will never lay you off for vacay. You will get another job even if they do. You wont get that time with your family or that trip to Europe
Take your damn vacation! I'm just finished my first full week off, with two more weeks this summer planned 🏖
Whats wrong with half of you? Just take your damn vacation. You don't need to lie, make excuses, or do any shady shit. Take your vacation, say you took your vacation, and have a story for the rest. Here's a dirty secret: all the P and D take their vacations, and we don't feel bad about it .
Just charge 60, hit your utilization goals early in the year, and take some vacation. No, you're not continuing to improve your utilization but you're also not hurting it
McK be grateful your performance is not tied to utilization.
All y'all scared of taking PTO, can you donate them to me? Please and thanks. Oh and let me know how your life turns out after working without PTO for 2 years
I would still claim billable hours in your timesheet when on vacation and then okay dumb when they ask you about it. It has worked successfully for me 20% of the time.
Pwc6 that's just stupid. If you have vacation planned if you're staffed it will be lower. I have to skip vacation to raise utilization. Better hope your vacation aligns when you're on bench or between projects.
Holy shit we're still arguing over this? It's math guys.
P3, it's just a common misconception that "If I take vacation hours my utilization will decrease" - you just need to know how and when to take vaca
It's not a misconception for those that can do math. If I am billable 2080, engaged on projects 2080, if i take vacation my util will be lower.
Y'all are silly. Simply said, work to live and you'll be fine. Seems like this thread needs another perspective on life. Enjoy the week and feel the sun since it's summer!
My utilization is at 140
It sucks how our profile is dependent on util and on our seniors selling work. We shouldn't pretend to be strategy when we clearly cant handle its risks
@All pwc people - looks like your metrics are skewed against you. You should jump ship. I'd be happy to take your referral ;)
