We are in the middle of a pandemic I’m not putting on mascara
it’s much easier to communicate when you can see people (physical cues, clarity of a person’s emotions and thoughts via their facial responses) versus awkward stop and starts on faceless voice conferences. it’s just a way to more authentically connect. video is much more preferable if you can’t be in the same room, IMO
I think it helps create a more collaborative environment!
I like to do it with the sun and window behind me so I show up as silhouette. The camera isn’t kind to everyone.
I do it because before we left the office, our management had a huge talk with us about being active, being presentable and prepared for video meetings at all times/etc. Having it on all the time just shows everyone I’m active and on it. Aka gives them peace of mind that all is good on my end. Would love to hear other thoughts though?
Thank you! They’ve always been “cameras on” when working from home but not to this extent now.
It's that idea that so much of communication is nonverbal. When forced, I just put on a shirt and smile to myself about having no pants on.
Yep. For me it’s the nice background. I don’t have an office and we’re in a house we’re actively trying to move out of. Just a lot going on. I was able to find a blank wall though so...
I agree that it helps make the video meeting seem less sad. I am client side now and we WFH quite a bit already. I turn my camera off if I’m eating and don’t have a speaking part though.
