Anyone ever ignore super negative Glassdoor reviews for a company and have it turn out ok?

I’m up for a role at a small company that has some truly awful reviews. In an earlier conversation they addressed this and explained they’ve made a lot of changes to leadership and other things to help fix the issues but I’m still hesitant to walk into a dumpster fire having been warned.

There are 2 scenarios where this might work out OK:

- the reviews are more than 12 months old AND there has been a change in leadership
- the reviews are for a specific department that isn’t related to you (at a larger company)

You aren’t in that scenario. If you see bad reviews about a small company, you should take those pretty seriously. It’s a very strong indicator that there’s a toxic work environment. I wouldn’t just overlook that.

I agree

If it's a small company.... idk culture is realllllly hard to change

Reach out to former employees on LinkedIn and ask them for feedback. Keep in mind pissed off employees are biased, so make sure you have some good questions that helps qualify those bad reviews.

Glassdoor reviews are mostly true. I rely on it too, for making decisions.

Really good question and replies. I feel the same. It’s unfortunate but I think / hope / have made work decisions a lot on Glassdoor reviews. I hope they’re true

In terms of interviews, the reviews I have gotten form glassdoor about companies interview process and attitude of the interviewer are mostly correct but I haven’t looked into the reviews about the companies generally

This always depends on your direct leader. You can have a fulfilling career at a bad company if you have a great leader and voice versa. You typically have highly engaged people when their direct leader values and supports them.

Advice on applying to PM jobs with 1yr APM experience?

I’ve been working as an APM at my current company for 1yr, and have basically been doing the work of a full blown PM the entire time. I’ve lead several features from start to finish and made sure to mention in my resume that I have been doing everything a regular PM does. Has anyone ever hired an APM for a PM role or done it yourself? Any tips? Advice?

How much have you heard of Account Managers making at companies in the tech space? I'm thinking about leaving my market research company.

I need advice. I moved into product management under a year ago to an early stage startup. The first few months went well, but the last 5 have been chaotic. It feels like we’re becoming more sales led, there are too many pivots (I expected some) our roadmap is becoming influenced by sales/ceo. Essentially, we’re trying to do much. It’s happening so much I’m starting to lose confidence in the company/strategy. It’s also causing me anxiety…
