I had an offer rescinded because I asked politely if there was any flexibility to negotiate class year or signing bonus. The offer was looping off half of my multiple practice-relevant years of experience.
Bunch of jokers.

I negotiated my signing bonus as an associate to be double what was offered. I was incredibly nervous to do so and it was a total non-issue. Now that I help make and negotiate offers, it is quite common for people to negotiate them and I would never be offended by a first counter (a second counter would be much dicier).

P2, this is the answer. I feel like the courage to negotiate comes with experience, but you sometimes (not always) can do better than the first offer and it never hurts to advocate for yourself within reason. I will also say, if they're bringing you in to help build a group (i.e. there is a legitimate question as to whether the work will be there immediately) or you will for certain need time to ramp up, asking for a guaranteed bonus is not at all a bad look and is a smart move.
Who cares about hours so long as you’re getting salary? Not a good look..no work is 100% guaranteed at all times
Don’t be greedy. If it’s a good job and it’s a better situation take it, do your best and earn it. Asking for a guaranteed bonus is effectively saying I don’t want to really try to make my hours and/or I want to stress the group if work truly dries up. Looking at it from a partner’s lens it sounds sketch to their pocket book.

That’s a standard ask. Unless offer rescission would mean you would be unemployed, I would ask.
If they are paying market, I wouldn’t ask 🫠. Unless, like your other comment said, they want to prorate even if you make the normal requirement.
