Kind of a non-commital answer but I think same rules apply for gaining friends who are muggles. Just hang out with folks who enjoy doing what you enjoy doing. Most of my close friends post-separation are vets but that's not for any reason other than we did a lot of Vet events in my MBA program. My other friends are just ones I went to other events with so no real difference there. You have to put yourself out there a little bit to meet folks. And it's more organic if you are doing something you enjoy when you meet them.
That’s society right now. Don’t get angry just do your best and keep it moving. You’re not in the military anymore and this is the climate you have to adapt to.

I joined a Sunday breakfast club and monthly whisky club. Lots of people of different backgrounds and ages. We chat about random things and things to make us better.
Each month, one member chooses a feature bottle. This is something expensive so we split the cost amongst the group. Additionally, each member brings a bottle to share with the group. Each month another member figures out the food, and we split that amongst the group.
