eBay is actually a really awesome company to work for - one of the better big-name tech companies. That said, I would echo what BA1 mentioned. Depending on where you are moving from, it's important to figure in the HCOL in CA. If you're coming from NYC, it may be relatively comparable, but if it's a LCOL area, it can be culture shock. Make sure the offer is inclusive of the higher prices you'll need to pay to rent/buy/live there. Congrats and good luck!
How much money are you currently making and how much was the offer? Also take into consideration the location, California might be much more expensive than where you’re currently living
I agree with BA1. I would consider first the increase in pay. Even if you get an increase, it might not be enough to cover your expenses.
Thanks guys! I currently live in Minneapolis and the offer is 80% more than I currently make, so I think all things considered I would land at the same spot I currently am at without changing my lifestyle. The bonus and stock options are much better than what my current compensation is at though. And they would take care of all the moving expenses/foregone bonus so I would remain whole.
Which is why my main concern is around what it’s truly like to work there. I currently have great work life balance and work with nice people, definitely something I don’t want to lose. I used to work in investment banking and have no desire at all to work those tough hours anymore or constantly be putting out fires, but at the same time living in Minneapolis is not it for me either so a move to California sounds lovely
That's great! I'm so happy for you! Good luck on your new journey, OP!
