Anyone know any good treatises or books that discuss medicine for PI lawyers? I am at a point in my career where I have the litigation and trial experience and it would be nice to develop a stronger knowledge of the medicine that I am arguing.

To qualify, I am just graduating law school but I have a background in being a first responder, bedside nursing and nursing administration. There are some excellent medical and nursing journals out there, however if these are a cut above your current understanding on a particular subject area I would work through a mixture of YouTube and texts that’s are available through sources such as Google Scholar. Nursing textbooks and/or nursing instructional videos provide an excellent cross walks on the medical language and jury friendly descriptions.

For what it’s worth, I find that ChatGPT is helpful for explaining injuries in lay terms. It also can be helpful for understanding the potential impact of an injury on various kinds of activities. Since much of what we need to do is explain the injury and treatment to people who don’t have any medical background, this is a great tool. Along the way one can get a deeper understanding of injuries and treatments by asking follow up questions. Obviously we need to be aware of hallucinations, but I find that it is pretty helpful for gaining an understanding of general injury/treatment information.

I see people using “F” all the time on FB, but this is the first time I’m seeing an extensive discussion about it. I mean, it is such a commonly accepted practice. I don’t know why it is so controversial all of a sudden. 🤷‍♂️

Bro it’s so basic.

Research medical journals. lol.

The jargon is not going to make you better. You speak to a jury you want to be basic. God it’s so easy to stomp on noobs.

The expert needs to have a 400 page cv.

You don’t dispute their speciality, like a doctor doesn’t dispute the attorney. Their service record and pedigree is all the matters, its appearances!

Sure, if you want to speak like a doctor go right on ahead. The jury will still respect the butcher, for being a butcher in practice!

Hey FishBowl Friends, so I’m currently trying to break into tech sales/FinTech and I feel that due to my previous work history, I might not look like the ideal candidate on paper but I’m an extremely fast learner and very coachable. I’ve been a manger at a gym, got my degree in finance, worked as a client advisor at a top 3 auto dealer in the nation and now I’m a project manager at a solar company. I really want something that’s remote and steady, any recommendations on how to spruce myself up?

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation. This whole process seems very atypical to me and the attorneys rarely touch a file until the first liability offer is received. The paralegals handle everything from intake to drafting the demands. The attorney briefly skims (does NOT read) the demand packages and signs. Is this ethical?? Anyone else work at a firm that is run this way??

I also take the driver seat for the grunt work on the firms bigger cases which are at or near 7 figure value. I constantly feel (cont.)

What's your preference for plaintiff's side? Steady pay at approximately $120k with no bonuses, or a base salary of $70k plus a cut of what you close over a minimum threashold? Midwest-ish market. In both situations, you get a cut of what you bring in.
