Some in industry like it, but it's just something to put on your resume. You'll never use anything learned. At the time, I was on a boring project and the firm was paying for it, so why not.

@D2 how much did you study before you took the test. I've been thinking about doing it.

I took a boot camp and studied for 6 days before taking the test. My biggest piece of advice is don't waste time memorizing the chart- very few questions compared to how long you need to spend memorizing it. Also, the questions are VERY long- it took a lot time just reading the question itself to figure out what they were asking. Use the "cross out" function to remove unnecessary info, it'll help you not get tripped up

Self study...14 days.

Is the certification worth it, from a career perspective? I'm thinking about it

I currently work at a medium sized firm and have about two years experience in personal injury litigation. The billable hours and lack of work life balance are really getting to me and I am looking to switch to something else out of litigation, preferably in house. When I moved in-house a year ago as a BigLaw mid-level, I took a 45% pay cut, far more than I was comfortable with (although I was fine with a 20-30% cut). I took the job because it was a great role and I was focused on making the jump in house and developing the skills I wanted, which required me moving away from my firm practice area. Now that my year-end review is coming up, how do I ask my company for a significant pay raise (not just a 2-5% inflation-matching raise)?

Looking for advice (& empathy): Started out in advertising, then became a journalist. Moved to the US for grad school, and back to advertising few years ago. Also not too sure of advertising as my heart is still in journalism but this pays the bills. Wary of other companies that might push me into working (most) weekends and evenings +Still don’t fully understand the US job market. Tips?

Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm doing patent work. I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). Do I try to stick it out at the firm while getting the masters, ask for a reduced hours schedule, or get a part time, non-legal job so I can focus more on the program (one year).
