Generally, I've had better projects at EY. However, that's highly dependent on which practices you're transitioning from/to.
The talent level at ATK is consistently better in terms of capability and drive. However, I've worked with people at EY who are easily as good as the best ATK.
Work-life balance isn't even remotely comparable - EY.
Compensation isn't even remotely comparable - ATK. Great bonus, great profit-sharing, immediate match and vesting clock.
There's also a consistently higher bar at ATK that pushes you to grow more and much more accountability. That can be rewarding. It also comes with a much more pressurized "up-or-out" dynamic.
ATK is dramatically less bureaucractic. EY is downright Draconian with their policies. You'll enjoy free lunches, and be able to access your email without having to complete 3 different sign-ins.
Hope that's helpful.
Thanks a lot EY1
Great choice. Do it
I know multiple people who have gone from ATK to EY. It depends on what you're prioritizing. They have different advantages.
EY1, so from your experience How does EY create a better work life balance environment?
Cultural is a big component. In my experience, project leaders (usually) frown upon weekend work. Juniors are also much more vocal in establishing their personal boundaries.
There are also structural drivers, too. I think that EY has more specialized and generally cheaper resources and scales projects much more effectively through shared technology. I also think that a more laxed up-or-out process changes incentives. Finally, vacation is use it or lose it - so I've found that people generally try to use it.
Of course, the above can have negative consequences - bizarre compensation negotiations, pockets of unreliables who would be outcounseled quickly elsewhere, and a tendency to reuse rather than create new knowledge.
(That said, you'll find an equal number who are passionate, creative, and probably more self-motivated contributors. It basically takes a little more savvy to avoid the bad apples above and/or below you. 😊)
No problem. Both are great firms for different reasons. You're probably a good consultant. Reflect on your priorities today and hopefully I gave you helpful enough inputs to make the right decision for you. 😊
Feel free to drop a burner if you have more questions later. I'll be around.
Yes, 25 years ago. Gone well so far.
I'm pretty sure that I know who P1 is and can confirm that he has been doing very well for himself.
