A skill required as a strategist is one who can speak in layman's terms what's going on with a client's business. If you can't translate the data jargon, you'll have a rough time.
Presentation skills, people skills and EQ are very important in strategy. That and truly knowing marketing and advertising aka the 4P’s. Understanding consumer behavior and the why. Everything in strategy is about telling a story and getting a client to believe in you. Analytics at times is black and white to a degree, it can be binary as well or at least how some analysts are in a way aka the saying the data doesn’t lie. But with strategy there is grey and unknowns at times. You have to be comfortable and confident with that and learn how to deal with that with clients.
Start using every opportunity you have at your current gig to knock it out of the park on data viz and storytelling. The latter is crucial for strat and the former will help you stand out and flex your background as an asset (rather than feeling like you’re “behind” on strat)
i transitioned from data to strategy and this is the correct answer
Every analyst should always operate as if they were already a strategist. That’s the “analysis” part of the job.
Thank you all for the help !
