I added a section for personal projects and volunteer roles, and a recruiter literally opened with that in my last interview. It helps show you’re proactive, not just doing the bare minimum.

likehelpful

I'd definitely list any of the relevant courses and certifications and think adding the volunteer work might make sense as well. It might not be totally relevant, but it still shows you're a well-rounded individual and gives the hiring manager some insight into who you are as a person. I don't know if that will make the difference between receiving an offer or not, but I don't think it can really hurt.

I think it is all worth adding as long as you make sure it ties into the position you are trying to get. Not that it all has to be black and white, you can absolutely show how something maybe not directly related will still help you in the job. I still need to add some of my volunteer work, really my whole resume needs redone!

It's a matter of space, you don't want to have a personal interests section larger than an important job, for instance. But devoting some space to things you've done pro bono, or courses you've taken that may be remarkable, or travel that's meaningful, could be worth the ink. It's good to show you're a well-rounded thoughtful person. Not everyone may be impressed, but another thoughtful person may be.

100% you need to add the volunteer work ASAP and resubmit. I am telling you the bank loooves volunteer work. Also you can put a link to your writing samples. They will appreciate that you actually like to write. You have no idea how many people will talk to you verbally but not put it in writing. You’re doing the right thing. I wish you the best.

A couple questions for the turnaround consulting fishes:
1. Is FP&A experience valuable for restructuring/turnaround consulting? I’m a CPA with experience in Big 4 FDD and a short stint in IB. Total work experience is a little over 2 years. I recently joined a RE company as a Sr FA in FP&A where I expect that I’ll be mostly doing budgeting & forecasting work.
2. If my goal is turnaround consulting, what should I focus on right now to best position myself?

I appreciate any insights/guidance.

Hello PM Sharks

I'm fully confused....your suggestions pls

I'm in consulting now and recently got the opportunity to switch an APM role within TCS. This is for the new b2b product they are building, I interviewed and got selected. (No pay rise)

What are the possibilities of landing an apm role in a product company after a short stint with TCS? I don't want to stay in TCS after 5 to 6 months.

Can I just vent on how annoyed I am with the increase in “priority boarding” of people that are able bodied? I am happy to let them on first. But I think they should get off last. So many times they are limping or in a wheelchair boarding. And then when we land that are the first to jump up and scurry off. Just not ethical.
