I spent 27 years working at AT&T in California. Fully remote since Feb 2003, 24yrs. Then in my final stage. January 2nd 2024 I spent 10 working days in Dallas TX. with a min 3 days in the office schedule. On January 15th I retired. Went back to California and finished my last 2 weeks. Since then, late 2024 AT&T has moved back to mandatory 5 days in office a week for everyone.

I am not sure who to blame. The bad politics at AT&T post Covid (think the time period and economics over the actual pandemic) or this new generation exposed to this new concept of WFH and then exploited it. Ultimately ruining it for the small minority of very experienced remote working professionals. I will split the blame 50:50

That's it

Bank of America has a strict back to office policy. There are a large number of staff who, like myself, were redeployed during covid and have been working remotely for the past five years. Our division is closing down and I have applied for dozens of internal jobs that I am well qualified for, but the bank refuses to allow us to work from a different location other than the office where the job is advertised. I'm in a support role and can work effectively from any desk anywhere. Many of my colleagues are in the same predicament. As things stand now it appears that Bank of America will likely be making a lot of us redundant who have proven to be great performers, already know the internal systems, many with long tenure, in favor of hiring new recruits. All because of office politics.

Yes, I've heard about Bank of America, too bad. They've been remote WAY before covid. I can not understand why they recently changed so drastically. Too bad 😮‍💨! Thanks for sharing!
