As a biglaw or midlaw tax assoicate, is it common to work on the corporate documents on the deal? My partner handles all the matters (not just tax matters) for some clients, so I prepare all the ancillary agreements and APA, not just tax related provisions, for them.

In my experience it’s common for tax to handle both the tax specific sections of documents and then provide a second set of eyes for all the economic provisions - eg, LLC waterfall, consideration definitions and mechanics in an acquisition agreement, attention to payment mechanics in paying agent agreements, etc.

Not in big law. We are just tasked with tax sections.

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. So, I just fired my first employee as a manager and I'm heartbroken. He was a great, great person but after 6 months on a PIP he just wasn't cutting it skills-wise. I know he was the provider of the household and his wife didn't have a job since she was raising three young ones. Needless to say, I had to take off because I felt terrible, sick to my stomach. How do you deal with firing guilt? Is that a thing? I can't help but feeling like I did something wrong.

I'm at a smaller MM bank. My original goal was to start here and hustle through into a BB, but I wasn't expecting to really like the people (my team, my direct seniors). I think the work we do probably wouldn't differ a crazy amount (we close deals, just smaller of course) and I'm wondering if I really have a reason to try to move into a bigger bank.
