How do you deal with students that say they don’t know what to do after you have repeated the directions multiple times?

I don’t know about you, but this year, I want to get better at having a work/life balance. I love having the time in the summer to do things around the house, but struggle when the school year starts. My students come to my class first every morning and are really hard to settle. They continue to carry on whatever they were doing on the bus. It takes about 20 min to get them settled down and doing the warm up and the class is only 45 min. Any tips?

Anyone else the last to be informed about ANYTHING at their site? I am only a second year SPED teacher and my eyes are already wide open to the fact that admin and Gen Ed teachers so often fail to inform me about important things regarding the grade levels I teach and other school events. Then I’m left scrambling to inform my students and parents of essential information, and I’m embarrassed! My aides also look at me like why don’t you know this? Aggravating.

I have a student who only comes to school two days a week and then only for 1 hour. He tells me I have to pass him so it doesn't matter. This is very frustrating. I knew this student hates school and often states he is stupid. I just do my best to encourage him. Build confidence. Any ideas to encourage him more? By the way, taking to his parent does nothing.

Did you watch 60 minutes section about student loan forgiveness? I am in my 8th year of teaching and this news of 9 out of 10 getting declined for approval of the Publc Service loans concerns me. There's no way that I will pay this off before retirement , and now to hear about the confusing rules. What do you think?

Too many cooks in the kitchen

I love my job in special education, the job may bring quite a bit of stress and exhaustion but nothing compares to the stress of the related service team. OT, PT, speech, BCBA, social worker, etc etc is really what’s killing me this year. It is 23 days into the school year and the team members all make different plans and as a result, nothing is being accomplished. And if paraprofessionals follow ie what OT says but not PT, it cause so much unnecessary conflict!
