As a woman in account management, I’ve noticed a frustrating pattern: I’m often handed the “softer,” more nurturing accounts—while the high-stakes, high-visibility clients consistently go to my male colleagues. It’s subtle, but it adds up. I’ve brought in strong results and managed difficult clients before, so it’s not a question of capability. I want to bring it up with my manager, but I’m nervous about being labeled as “difficult” or “complaining.” Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you approach the conversation without it backfiring?

Say it straight. If they’re uncomfortable hearing about the pattern, that’s their problem. Being labeled “difficult” is just code for “a woman who knows her worth.”

Curious as I can relate to being both a woman and a previous Senior account manager, do you all know of any open roles at your company? I’m looking to get back into this.
- advice, speak to your manager about your concerns and or maybe transfer to another team if possible? I know some verticals at my current company act this way as well but some teams are less toxic than others.

Could be your leaderships MO. Bringing it up isn’t going to work cause they likely can’t see it themselves and it’s going to be nearly impossible for you to prove it - from their perspective.

I’ve been as agencies where the highest profile accounts were led by women so probably time to start looking.

I don’t tailor who leads an account by how high profile it is, but rather by how the client’s leadership style is - meaning if it’s a more direct client, they’ll get a more direct leader.

One of the most helpful tools I’ve found is having mid/sr folks take DiSC training. Even better if you do it as a workshop with clients. Learn the traits you have and how to deploy them to the most success.

In the old fashioned world, it was absolutely who is the most aggressive/assertive and put them on the biggest accounts. I don’t find that approach conducive to long term client and agency relationships.

If there is a case that we have to quarantine again. Do you all think it is possible for store associates to work remotely? If so, what are some ways this could work? I fear another pandemic or outbreak and so many people being out of work again. I can't even fathom those that had jobs in retail that had little to no choice to not be remote.

I made a couple errors at a new job. An important document to be distributed had wrong information on it, which was proofread by 2 other people. Then a couple of typos in emails, the person micromanaging me told me to send out but I didn’t fix the errors. Failed to meet a deadline but completed 95%. I was written up over all this last week, fired this week. There’s a lot more to this but I think it’s because the DM doesn’t like me.

Trying to figure out from a client relations perspective how much I need to be fluent in Google Analytics and the planning and buying process of paid media: social and search.

I don’t want to miss the right person because of my bias, so im wondering how many healthcare related AMs have healthcare/clinical experience… thanks in advance!
