Say it straight. If they’re uncomfortable hearing about the pattern, that’s their problem. Being labeled “difficult” is just code for “a woman who knows her worth.”
Curious as I can relate to being both a woman and a previous Senior account manager, do you all know of any open roles at your company? I’m looking to get back into this.
- advice, speak to your manager about your concerns and or maybe transfer to another team if possible? I know some verticals at my current company act this way as well but some teams are less toxic than others.
Could be your leaderships MO. Bringing it up isn’t going to work cause they likely can’t see it themselves and it’s going to be nearly impossible for you to prove it - from their perspective.
I’ve been as agencies where the highest profile accounts were led by women so probably time to start looking.
I don’t tailor who leads an account by how high profile it is, but rather by how the client’s leadership style is - meaning if it’s a more direct client, they’ll get a more direct leader.
One of the most helpful tools I’ve found is having mid/sr folks take DiSC training. Even better if you do it as a workshop with clients. Learn the traits you have and how to deploy them to the most success.
In the old fashioned world, it was absolutely who is the most aggressive/assertive and put them on the biggest accounts. I don’t find that approach conducive to long term client and agency relationships.
