When I was in this situation, I left the toxic manager for another role. Haven’t regretted it a single day.
I’ve been applying for other roles, but no luck just yet. I’m trying to find other approaches/methods to work with him in the meantime before I lose my sanity 😅
It sounds to me like you are better at your job than they are and they are trying to deliberately make you feel lost or frustrated
Pro
Count to ten, pointed yes/no questions, go to him/her with potential solutions that he can react to
I have never had any issues with management prior to him and have always been a top performer with great annual reviews. When I talk to him I do so professionally and with respect. I do not make any changes in facial expressions/tone, demeanor etc so when he says those I’m often taken a back because I’m asking these questions from a business standpoint to clarify how he would like procedures executed since ultimately he is the manager. We have a small team, so there have also been times where we will talk then he suddenly closes my office door and says those, which draws the attention of the team and clients inside the bank. To me, it seems like an intimidation tactic and like I am being gaslit/invalidated.
Go to HR. They won’t change it will get worse
HR is not your friend and will not protect you, unless your concerns could be provable in court. Start documenting every conversation, and follow up every convo with an email reiterating the discussion and confirming next steps, and print them regularly.
Either try to just avoid him or trying to to change your narrative of how he talks to you if you want to stay at that job. If you don’t want this particular job, try something wlse
