I worked for an editor who would often mutter "don't let perfect be the enemy of the good." Which, in a lot of circumstances, is reasonably good advice. Depending on the context and the subject matter, having it be factual and readable can be enough, it doesn't have to read like Zadie Smith.
I love that line, “don’t let perfect be the enemy of the good.” Rings so true in this industry. Sometimes just getting it out, clear and factual, is the real win.
I lean towards good enough when time is short. News moves too quickly to obsess over perfection. I would rather be accurate and timely than polished but late. Perfection feels like a privilege in this field.
Accuracy first, polish second. News does not wait for us to perfect every comma. Being timely and trustworthy matters more than sounding literary.
