At what point do you tell your mentor/manager that you've been interviewing with other firms?

Long post alert; I have been interviewing with a b4 for a senior con role since Mar end. Cleared all the rounds including case study and got strong rating as well as good feedback. Fast forward to last week, the talent POC calls me up and informs that she has asked the business if the position is still open, because now they just need the business approval to roll out the offer. I immediately felt demotivated as to ‘why now’ after all rounds have been cleared (continued in the comment below)

1st yr at a nyc v50 firm doing general transactional work. I know the lateral market for transactional lawyers is hot but not as hot for juniors. I just want a change of scenery because my current firm is bleeding good associates / not giving great training imo / and just seems small. Would lateralling this early feasible? I'm having total 7+ yoe (5+yrs embedded developer + 2yrs in FuSa automotive) Initially HCL have denied what I've expected for automotive FuSa and they have given an offer of 10LPA with a justification that my relevant experience is less, now I'm holding an offer of 18 LPA and asked HCL for a counter offer for the same position what do you guys think will HCL offer me this much?

For McKinsey PEI (power round), should my stories be around 5-6 minutes containing a good level of detail, or really generic (~2 minutes) and just let the interviewers ask me questions on what they feel are most important to them? I’m really eager to present the details because I think these are elements that can show my fit with the company well, but am hearing some people say that >2 mins people get lost. But some details are important to provide background (industry specific)…
