Hello, in you 3rd sentence did you mean ‘HR folks ask?’ In that scenario, I understand from where you are coming from. However, we should also need to understand why layoffs are happening? It’s either performance issue or team got dissolved. In either scenarios the employee is not needed. Hence this system.

Am saying there are resigned employees sitting on notice period, why are they still working in the company.
Here layoffs are happening due to Atos bad financials, not for performance.
So, wouldn't it be logical to save costs by exiting resigned guys instead of doing layoffs of employees on bench or buffer.
If project close employees can't be laid off, that a lame excuse. It's not as per rule or compliance.
Skills can be upgraded anytime not a big deal. In IT skills technology changes every 2 years. Just hiring outsiders and assuming they are better skilled is a gimmick. I've seen people with fake resumes joining in.
