Move dilemma:
Currently @ Arthur D. Little Limited Dubai as SE Manager w/ base comp of 285k $ + 10-15% bonus. Vert limited fit w/ people & projects in the region (MEI) & not motivated by seniors. Not happy w/ the job but good WLB. Very likely to promote to Pr which would include a 20-30% jump in total comp but shift to more variable
Move to MBB as PL. Projects & people are supposed to be great and he could see himself in the long run. Comp is 170k $ + 60% bonus. Will take 1.5y to move to Pr

Industry doesn't pay as well as consulting usually, defonitely not at levels below like a senior manager.
If you're in the US, most of the time it's a decrease in base/bonus, though it can be a net increase if you get stock grants and/or a stock purchase plan. Obviously there are exceptions (to all the trolls who got 350% bump when they left, and yet still come back on FB to brag about it), but you generally have to give up some money to stop traveling, especially after just a few years.
Average starting salary out of MBA is around 135k for consulting, 105k for "industry". Raises are bigger too for a good performer. You get "extra credit" for consulting experience, but certainly not enough to make up that much difference. Plenty of people luck into a great job, but they are the minority, and if you're looking to move into consulting after 2-3 years you will almost certainly take a pay cut. This is opposite in Canada, FYI, and for some markets (Bay Area and NYC are probably different), but the vast majority of moves will absolutely be a pay cut.
If you live in the Bay Area, I'd expect to jump to 11xk+ to make it worth leaving Deloitte
D3: industry pay should be more than consulting
Base pay may be same. Bonus could be much higher.
Agree with D3.
Also keep in mind that D usually pays more than KPMG, so a pay raise to K1 might be a decrease to OP 🤔
If I join industry from consulting I will get a pay hike. At the same time if I were in industry and planning to join consulting my pay hike rate will be less.. Right? This is across the board.
It really depends on the industry. Pharma usually pays more than what consulting pays for instance.
There's no payhike unless you go from consultant directly into an AVP or better position. A consulting manager makes about the same as an avp
Uncle D pays top base of consulting especially for high performers so if you're an SC or lower its likely lateral or decrease.
