I'm at McK in a client facing solutions group and the part about being second class citizens is 100% true here too. However for exit opps, very few companies would be aware of the difference between internal tracks at BCG. FWIW I've seen my peers from this group move to PE and big tech S&O jobs so it may not matter a lot from an exit perspective

I personally have not experienced people talking to me differently but I know those who have. The reason I say we're second class is a much longer promotion schedule and a lot of such groups not having anyone at the Partner level (Associate Partner being the ceiling), lower comp and the gap widens as you become more senior, and certain trainings not being available to those outside the consulting track. The upside is that a lot of groups have a better WLB and you build industry expertise that could be quite valuable as McK2 also mentioned
I’m currently an SKA at BCG. Happy to chat about my experience if you’d like to DM me. It really depends on what you make of the role. If you join as a “client-focused” (CF) SKA there’s a structured path to become an “expert consultant” (ECT), and have had numerous SKA colleagues jump to the generalist consulting recently - although that’s not a structured path and requires the usual interview process
Dont trust the recruiters when they tell you in will be client facing. These people have no integrity and lie to get you through the door
There is a lot of lying to the external applicant pool regarding BST/ABM roles. Beware of being treated as a third class citizen outside the consulting track.
Think that honestly really depends on the person and the role that they have. I’m in GSB/BST and I would NOT say that I’m treated like a third class citizen, and the KT I work with daily probably wouldn’t either
Not a client facing role. It’s a support role at BCG that interfaces with client teams. Well respected internally in general, but still treated like a T2 resource, alas.
Exit opps aren’t unique or a leg up from industry/research roles since they aren’t core consulting.
Both bill rate and expertise. Feel free to DM me.
Do you think associates are well respected here? 😂
Word.
