As MBB that just transitioned to PE ops, it is our goal to end up here. Better hours, better pay, better exits. Always skip MBB unless you want to be a partner

250 cash, couple hundred thousand in carry that will payout in a few years. Have to wait, but if you spread it across and apply discount for future dollars, it works out around 300k assuming you stay for 5-6 years. Will get more carry allotted on next fund too
M1 has a point. You get limited to portcos a bit coming out of PE, and portcos don’t necessarily tend to be exciting new growth companies.

Depends on your longer term goals. I’ve seen people go from MBB to KKR Capstone so you could even have both
Depends on if you wanna be C suite of a PE backed company (KKR Capstone) vs be an operator in sexy growth startups (MBB). Capstone definitely pays better though.

Don't forget that VCs and GEs behind these "sexy" start-ups are a type of private capital. Investors know what PE Ops professionals can do and therefore recruiters are filtering for that experience when looking for operators.
