DC is mostly fed homie, but we also have Hilton, Marriot, Capital One, and AOL to name a few. What kind of work are you looking to do?
Angellist angel.co. Most of the listings in my alerts are mid level positions for funded startups, a few.years experience, pay $70-150k and .01-2% equity. Definitely a different structure than consulting, but I think the consulting experience plays well.
In addition to DD1s list...Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HMSHost, VW, AWS, MSFT, lots of tech services companies (data center capital of the world)
Nestle moving in soon too
Amazon opening new east coast HQ in Herndon, right next to Audi and VW HQ
There are also tons of industry and trade groups in DC that are worth considering
Isn't the culture at Amazon terrible? I've seen many FB posts about the insane hours at warehouse positions. Keep the ideas coming though. Sometimes DC people looking for an exit opp think another consulting company is the only exit possible when it's really not.
@OP, what sectors or functions are you interested in? Objectives for your exit (i.e. equity, work life balance, just get away from soul-sucking federal services, etc)?
BA1, I'm actually in commercial consulting so I've never really spent too much time local in the DC area. Nothing against federal work but personally don't think I would find it interesting (even if it is more stable). I'm sort of a workaholic however may need to become local to have more time with the fam (i.e. Being able to grab dinner w them on a wednesday) rather than only seeing them once a week on the weekends
OP I'm hiring for internal strategy in a tech services company (left BCG this year). Drop a burner and I can shoot the job description over.
@BA1 Do you have any pros/cons about BAH? Always been intrigued but don't have people there than can speak for that?
@a2 pros: biggest commercial employer in the DC area and the quality of people is pretty good. Pay is pretty good for the region.
Cons: the cushy jobs are basically butts in seats at federal agencies, you don't usually get too much choice of projects unless you're seeking lateral moves, and pretty much the only high margin work bah does is cyber security.
There is at least one senior associate who leads a human capital team. If you drop me a burner, I can potentially put you in touch. I don't know how they are doing lately.
@op your burner is killer
I'd look into startups first. Less likelihood of working on mass surveillance or cluster bombs for the troops
BA1 any good source of finding out a list of all major startups here?
@dd1 and Mars.
Thanks DD1 🙏🏽 corp strategy or corp strategy work.
Background: spent 2 years in digital before moving to s&o. Have a year in s&o (same firm)
Nice one BA1! I'll def check it out
BCG2, I think their new office will be focused very specifically on AWS
