PS: Ritz is not a true hotel, it's a residence but still gorgeous
Thanks M1. We’re staying a week on the Big Island, just flying in/out of Honolulu and SO wants to spend a day and night on Oahu.
Can you get into Ko Olina Beach Club? Away from all of the traffic in Honolulu so less crowded
Not sure when you were there last, but there is a far amount there now since Disney opened their resort. There is a nice mall in Kapolei with several restaurants, as well as the restaurants at Ko Olina station. Not the night life of Honolulu, but not the crowds either
I’ve stayed at the Moana Surfrider, would agree that it’s iconic and a good location, the rooms are the best, but I would stay there again.
I meant to say aren’t* the best
Royal Hawaiian is one of my favorite properties. I prefer it over the Moana Surfrider.
I grew up in Honolulu and would really recommend against staying in the Waikiki area. It is so fabricated and doesn't give a glimpse to what life in Hawaii is actually like. Don't really know the hotels there because I stay with family when I'm home but feel free to DM about areas and/or tips
Agreed that Waikiki doesn’t give the best picture of what Oahu is all about, but if you are only there for a night, might as well just stay there and fully embrace the touristy things. It’s closer to the airport than anywhere else you’ll be able to get a hotel too. Given your options with bonvoy, go with either the royal or surf rider so you are all least on the beach... although the ritz does have nicer rooms.
If you want to see real island life, head over to the Courtyard on the North Shore.
Ritz has the best room. Royal Hawaiian is on the beach and rooms are OK. Moana has interesting history but rooms are old and tired.
why not other islands?
I actually don't mind Waikiki for one night. it's not your picture perfect Hawaii, but it's definitely cool.
I know this isn't what you asked (more generally for anyone going to Hawaii) but if you can find an air bnb near kahala (the kahala Mandarin is actually where a lot of celebrities and wealthy people stay to get away from Waikiki) or on the east side of Diamond Head it's great!!! You have everything in reach but will still be away from the fabricated "aloha spirit"
Then the above comment stands. My uncle works at the Sheraton as well! Pretty solid
