Replacing the ductwork sounds like BS. The condenser unit just needs to be replaced (IMHO). Is it one of those where the AC is outside and furnace inside or are they separate units? (And where is the coil leaking, in the outdoor unit or in the exchange?) my 1100 sq ft house has a 2ton AC. Been running 15 years. I used Nick & Co in Charlotte. (My mom was told her coil was rusting and needed replacing for $8k. Another company said it wasn’t too bad and could last 2-3 years. So you definitely need to get other estimates. )
Seems high but could be inflation.
I just had mines replaced with Martin Heating and A/C Install and Repair and he was a lot more affordable. Call 980-328-4716. You won’t be disappointed
That’s high for a house that size. You could get the leak repaired for cheaper or keep shopping around.
If you got one, you should check your home warranty. This would very likely be covered. If you’re upping the size of your unit, you may actually need the ductwork done. Not having the proper ducts with a larger unit can cause condensation and mold 😷. Sorry to hear it tho

Was super happy with comfort first about two years ago. Gave different options for pricing ended up around 8k for 1500 sq ft if I remember correctly
Precision heating and air.
I'm getting a new HVAC and duct installed on a house that never had HVAC for like 10k 1400sqfr. And I've used this guy several times for other rentals and similar pricing. You're getting ripped off
Always get multiple quotes. I have had great experience with SKY Hvac
Easy solution is just get multiple quotes. The duct work getting replaced sounds suss
1st; make sure you aren't calling the popular company that has a ton of commercials. (MJ) they are the most expensive and high-pressure sales. Had terrible experiences with them and had one of their techs escorted off my property by police.
2nd; On a 5 year old HVAC, the evap coil could probably stand to be replaced. I had the same issue on my system a few years ago and had just the coil replaced. The system is now 20 years old and still going strong without issue.
3rd: duct work only needs replacing if it's damaged or you're upgrading unit sizes.
Definitely get multiple quotes. You're in peak season, and prices are high, but ill intentioned companies will use this time of year and desperation to price gouge. Stay diligent.
