Came across a familiar face on linked in... it was a partner at Deloitte that interviewed me on campus and is now a partner at a midsize firm.

Why do partners switch if they already bought in?

Partners leaving is more common than you think. Better life, more say, all sorts of reasons we leave. I left to develop a relatively small team from the ground up, moved to a firm with only 4 ppl in its assurance practice and now every team member was hand picked and developed by me. All sorts of reasons!

Which service line? Non-Audit partners generally have higher risk of termination from Big4’s for various reasons, including drop in business volume in their respective service line

Tax partner

Ya they could have been let go, partners aren’t very open about that. And the firm gives them a lot of time to find something new. One tax partner I knew was fired (we were close and she was open about it). It took her about 5 months to find something and she stayed on that entire time. And other times it’s just a decision by the person for any other reason.

Fired

Interesting. Thanks everyone

Partners are also asked to leave all the time. If their income statement isn’t greater than their net distribution.

Ex-consultant now in marketing. Used to be an avid follower here and got great insights on companies when trying to exit consulting so thought I’d try here for advice. Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? A company along those lines.

Has anyone lateraled from big law into an in-house role at one of your firm’s clients? I feel like this happens quite a lot and curious how that process went (did you reach out to them, they to you, etc)? I’m in my second year and staffed on a large client & starting to develop a relationship which I’d like to maintain. I’m thinking about hanging in here for another year or two but then starting to look to lateral. Would love to work for this company if a position is available at that time.
