We have 10 weeks paid parental leave that has to be used concurrently with my NY state 12 weeks of PFL/FMLA, so from my understanding is that’s 10 weeks full pay and then 2 weeks of NY PFL (67% pay or the max benefit for those 2 weeks). How does STD typically fit in? Could you normally take time after birth for STD before starting the clock on the 12 weeks of parental leave/PFL? Could you normally take additional time before birth under STD?
STD runs concurrently with NY PFL as well as your paid parental leave. If your disability provider pays 60% (typical), NY paid leave would cover the remainder (up to a maximum weekly amount).
After the disability period (6 weeks vaginal birth, 8 weeks c-section), NY PFL pays your salary up to the maximum amount, your employer tops you off so you get to 100% of your salary for 10 full weeks.
If you want to take the last 2 weeks to
make 12 weeks paid with NY PFL, you will only get the maximum PFL amount (when I took it, it maxed at about $1k/week).
Look into NY, but I don’t know if they have pre-due date time off. NJ does have 4 weeks pre due date paid time off (disability) up to a maximum amount. This is separate from PFL.
It is so convoluted and HR is usually clueless about state policies (bc they vary widely). It’s really annoying. I had NY first pregnancy and NJ second. My HR in NJ didn’t even tell me about the time I was entitled to by the state prior to delivery.
I worked till the day I gave birth both times to get max time off with baby.
To add to this, you can stack your own PTO on top of this. But NOT sick leave; if you have separate sick leave days, those are taken at the beginning of your STD period.
I used 15 saved PTO days to add 3 full weeks of fully paid leave to my 12 weeks covered by my job.
At Deloitte, STD is before our weeks of Family leave. That said, I think the 12 weeks of FMLA comes as part of that and we just aren’t covered the rest of the leave. You can get STD before birth but your doctor would have to write you out for a particular covered reason with whoever your STD provider is. Pregnancy itself isn’t enough.
Idk about other companies, but at my company (not EY anymore), the STD pays for 6 weeks (or 8 weeks if you have c-section) that runs at the same time as FMLA, then the parental leave kicks in (also same time as FMLA).
