You’ll be surprised what 3 years of insanely high expectations, hard work, and constant coaching can prepare someone for.
Typically it’s 2 years per role. Exceptions are BA to EM in NA which takes 3 years and AP which can take 2-3 years.
Just about everyone who wants it gets it. Leads a team of typically 2-4 BAs/ASCs (each with their own workstream), manages the project. Making partner isn’t a race and most people don’t optimize for time.
Each engagement has a director (AP or P dedicating part of their time) who is ultimately responsible for project delivery. EM reports to them.
Average is 3 yrs. Some who specialize rarely do it in 1.5. typical would be 2.5-3.5.
BCG pl takes 3.5-4 depending on performance. Bain typical would be 5.
Experience wise it's a great deal. Compensation wise it's notoriously not a good deal (bb pay more).
A to EM salary is also tied to class and performance, not title btw

It’s not the same level of responsibility as M/PL at B/B (and also doesn’t pay as well). But still relatively speaking a good deal of responsibility for someone in Y4 out of undergrad.
Yeah, anyone with the formal EM title is as fully responsible as anyone else with that title.
We don’t have 1Y or 2Y distinctions for that role - just one EM set of expectations - so it is a really high bar for our direct to EM BAs to hit.
They are all incredibly impressive people.
