There are two ways to get promotion - competency based and role based.
You can be promoted because you have been extra ordinary performer even if there is no open role in the team. You have to go through similar round of interviews as you did when you joined by someone from altogether different vertical.
Role based is when an existing VP resigned and we have open position or a new position is approved which is open - in that case you can apply for position through IJP (if it’s internal speak to your manager first and if it’s another team you don’t have to inform manager until you are shortlisted for interview) again the interview process would be similar
