Can you really network into a hedge fund equity investing role? By networking I mean the kind where people cold email or get semi-warm intros rather than expensive country clubs and fraternity alumni. I’ve never networked to get into investing jobs but I’m starting to consider it after going through 10+ interviews over the past 7months after getting laid off as a junior buyside equity analyst. It has been brutal.

Do you think independent agencies will be in better shape to handle COVID-related client budget reductions and/or losses?

Or does it not matter and layoffs are equal across the board?

We’re in such a vicious business. You give your heart & soul to an agency, a client, a brand. Then the wind changes & you’re laid off, reassigned, chewed up, spit out, on to the next. I’m tired.

Is anyone expecting agency layoffs at the moment?

If we are billable on project in nagarro do we need to worry about recession for now .

It’s so nice that every agency laying off people, have those left standing (and other agencies) trying to hustle jobs for their unemployed friends, but there are also a ton of people who were unemployed prior to Covid...so no severance, job hunting lot longer, and not earning income for longer time...hurting even MORE due to quarantine.

Which agencies in San Francisco are weathering the storm the best? I haven’t seen much about layoffs or furloughs. It seems like the bigger agencies in NY have been hit harder.

The week of my wedding, my husband (PL SQL Developer 4 yoe) was laid off. That was a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I'm still bringing money in as a software engineer, but I'm looking for advice on how to support a partner who has been laid off. Ultimately I think we will be ok, but I know he's hurting / stressed / and could use a supportive partner.

I just got laid off from my job as a gov contractor because the project I was working on ended. I’m currently a grad student part time and was hoping to work that job until finishing grad school before applying to consulting roles. One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

Considering moving to Denver to be closer to nature and family. Husband and I can easily transfer jobs. No kids yet but ideally soon.

We live in Chicago (Lincoln park) and love it - the walkability, bar and restaurant scene, shopping, cleanliness, etc. - and are trying to find similar neighborhoods in the Denver area. I’d like something bougie (not afraid to admit it), safe, with single family homes and that’s not too hipster/crunchy/west coast grunge. Any neighborhood recommendations?
