Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).
Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.
Thanks for the help!

I am an associate, had an offer from EY for a 25% salary increase but no promotion and no signing bonus. I was very transparent with KPMG that this was on the table, they essentially said hold on for 4 months until promotion time and they came back with 29% raise, 14% bonus and promotion. I am very happy I stayed because I now have leverage at EY if I chose to cross that bridge again
Most people jump and boomerang back. I've heard of counsellors telling their peers to leave and come back because it's a great way to reset your salary. As long as you can verbally justify the moves and not make them solely about money, people will hire you. My cc said "you're still young enough to do the big four tour and come back" haha
I don't think <2 years is too short a time period. Once I hit a full year, I'll be taking offers from elsewhere and if firm doesn't pay to keep me, they won't. Too young to stay somewhere out of misguided and unreciprocated loyalty.
I left Accenture to go to industry and got a 20% raise and a promotion and left industry to go to EY for 35% increase but same level. Up for promo now this year
Every partner I've ever worked for has worked at multiple firms @PwC
Also considering doing this. Very interested to hear responses
Also on loyalty- I feel like this is not what it used to be. Many of the partners here are direct entry partners not promoted within. Heck every day there are emails about "rejoining KPMG after x years, now as a managing director".
I made manager at Ey and the next year switched to pdubs got more money then I was asking for, turns out I was just drastically underpaid tho
Continuation from above comment, I personally thought <2 years before jumping ship was too short of a period of time
Totally depends on how much you value your internal network / the direction your practice is going. There are also considerations around 401k and pension vesting, and the interpretation of being the kid who jumps around for a few bucks. I personally did not feel unreciprocated or misguided when I had the conversation.
Would be up front about the offer and see if they match or get close, otherwise jump ship. Sticking around for the sake of loyalty is a bad idea. If they don't care enough about you to value you better, there is no reason to care about the firm.
I made a move after 3 years for 35% increase and better alignment as internal transfer was dragging on... Was very sad to leave my network but the partners understood and said the door was open if I wanted to come back. Might come back in couple of years if I am still into conducting.
Accenture does 100% up to 6%, but only after your first year
A1 Acn is pretty generous comparing to what I had at D
Not to mention, you get a 15% discount on ACN stock (upto 10% of your salary )
Moving not mooing 🐮 before some grammar nazi shows up on this thread
I wouldn't take the Deloitte bait of coming in at a lower level, they 'claim' you will get promoted in a year.. Almost never happens
Ex Deloitte here in case you are wondering why an Accenture guy is saying this :)

Surprised in the coming back to KPMG and telling them as I was told this never works and they basically say good luck at that place. I've been here for 3 years I have a great relationship with people here but Deloitte approached me and will give me a 40% raise and likely a promotion to manager. This year I'm solid for manager promotion but I doubt they will match the salary. I'm drastically underpaid for the work I do here, all the directors I work for know it and are afraid I'll leave but my partner is Cheap!
