If years - can you move? Lol
Southwest only flies into Midway. Is that going to be an issue?
PwC has accelerated status with delta, 16 one ways = platinum, SWA is awesome if you can use the cc pass
If you commute the next few years (guaranteed), i would pick UA or DL - not only because you’ll rack up status, but because you can rack up the points and use on international biz / first class flights for yourself and your partner. Especially with UA’s star alliance partnership, so many amazing options for your travels ...
Not interested in AA? I do the same trip a ton and like using AA. UA is probably better choice if you're into traveling to Europe (vs Asia with oneworld) for personal trips, but honestly they both work fine for that.
I’d stick with delta then, the shuttle is every hour and you get upgraded fairly easily because ORD isn’t a Delta hub.
Thanks all. Yeah im heavily leaning toward sticking with Delta with my platinum. My biggest hesitation came from the fact that my back of the envelop calculation showed that flying southwest long term could translate to several hundred dollars worth of gift cards every month, which would be a bigger benefit than having platinum on delta and getting like two or three free international trips through delta miles. Thanks & regards,
D2 thats a fair question but hear me out. Those international trips might have the face value of $4k but in reality the true value to me is like $1200 because i would never pay $4k out of pocket and would just fly economy...
D1 nope. I live about equidistant from both airports and i dont find security or taxing at ORD any faster than Midway
M1 i cannot move due to family reason. Domestic partner has business rooted here
Pwc1 thanks. Already am platinum on delta from last year, if it matters. I dont really travel much domestically so not sure i will find companion pass highly valuable
I like the Delta shuttle
I'd go for United since Chicago and EWR both are hubs. Also United is a Star Alliance member so you could use those points on partner airlines for international trips
K1: not sure one world is better for Asia ... they have Cathay Pacific & JAL, but Star Alliance has Singapore Air, Thai, EVA, ANA, Air China, and Air India. Far more route coverage / options (plus the first 4 listed are on par with or beat the oneworld options, particularly in business / first class)
@OP: how much are these gift cards amounting to specifically? One round trip biz class internationally (Asia / Europe) averages $4-5K, so just curious how you can stack up enough Southwest gift cards to meet or exceed this amount!
Hahaha okay, fair enough. As many on this thread will probably attest to, once you fly long-haul international business class (or of course first class), it’s very tough to go back ;) but I digress. Enjoy traveling!
