Got the per diem job. Nice pay. Signed the offer. But they put addendum. 24 hr weekend day shift once a month and 1 overnight call twice a month and 3x 10 hr shift per week. I was looking for flexibility for my young kids. While my wife works 3x12s. I’m aware of some weekend day shift but not 24hr. The overnight call also was a surprise. Contemplating.

What do folks with family (SO, kids) opt for in terms of Google health insurance: a high-premium / low(er) deductible PPO plan, or a low-premium / high(er) deductible HSA plan? Kid requires 5-8 annual pediatric visits, while SO and I frequent 5-10 visits each between PCP (annual physical) and specialists (dermatology, chiropractor, etc.) Coming from a low-premium, low-deductible MBB healthcare plan, so realize that will be taking a hit either way. Just trying to minimize the damage.

Other than higher pay (I didn’t become a lawyer to get rich 🤣) what is the benefit of working for BigLaw, or private practice in general? As a government lawyer, I make 6 figures, have excellent benefits, no billable hours requirements, more time off than I know what to do with (including mental health days), a pension, a 401(K), option to chose whether to WFH or not, no weekend work, no working before 8am or after 5pm. It seems like so many lawyers in private practice are unhappy.

As a college student I was always told that a single page resume’ was the norm and anything longer was weird. But now my wife in the healthcare industry claims a 2-3 page CV is the norm. Thoughts?

I go on maternity leave soon, and my firm offers 16 weeks paid leave, which I plan to fully take advantage of. The only female shareholder in our office keeps pushing me to only take 6 weeks though, because that's what she did. I feel really put off by her comments, but its also making me feel guilty about taking the full time. This is mostly a vent, but if anyone wants to give me some words of wisdom or thoughts, I will take them!

I, a childless woman who does not plan to have kids, am jealous of the parental leave parents get to take from work from choosing to have a child (a big life event). I 100% understand that they are working in a different way by taking care of the baby and being deliriously worn out in the process, but it makes me sort of jealous that unless I have a kid there is no life event that I can take ~3 months away from work to focus on and enjoy, plus have my hours prorated and a job to come back to.

Do you think using “him/her” for “he/she” (ex: “her is playing” “him not here yet”) is something that kids usually grow out of? Or does it need direct intervention? I have 2 students who exhibit this error, who otherwise should be dismissed. Normally I’d just keep them on and work on it alongside other goals, but they don’t have any other goals, and with COVID, and my upcoming maternity leave in March, a more compact caseload would be advantageous.

Had a 30 minute screener yesterday. Recruiting manager sent me a conflicts form today (very much implying we were full speed ahead). Seems like a red flag to me? I at no point accepted an offer. We haven’t discussed hours, salary, benefits. What does everyone make of this?
