Step 1. Buy a delta gift card (this won’t get reimbursed
Step 2. Use gift card as payment for part of a flight (I used a $100 gift card on a $550 flight
Step 3. Charge remaining flight ($450 for me) to amex plat
Step 4. Wait a few days and then bam
You the real MVP
SC1 your Q was addressed upthread.
The $200 is only supposed to be valid for airline fees, not for airfare.
Not a delta flyer, any other ideas to stash credits? I have $250 on two cards, airline not selected
Anyone tried for AA?
I don’t get it why not just charge the whole flight to amex?
Correct. Not allowed to use for airfare. But, for whatever reason, when you use a gift card, Delta’s accounting software turns the “airfare” into a “remaining incidental” and Amex picks it up as creditable.
Thanks OP!
Also works when you split the cost between two cards, but you have to call the reps to split the cost.
I’m on a delta flight if anybody has a drink voucher! Also don’t forget to select an airline on AMEX before doing the purchase!
Here you go OP, happy holidays!
I’m confused as to how this is a loophole? You spent $350 on a $550 flight (Amex reimbursed $200). Don’t they reimburse up to $200 annually on travel/airfare related expenses anyway? Why go through the trouble of the gift card?
