Cognizant is not a consulting company. The top tier clients will never go past MbB or Big 4/ACN for any strategy or advisory work but Cognizant, TCS and the likes are in play for long term implementation work because they undercut on bill rates(which is why their bonuses are so low compared to B4).
Cognizant is an IT sweatshop much like the other WITCH companies. Unless their pay is significantly higher, I would take the route of a B4 especially if you have an mba.
I worked in India for three years at a WITCH (Wipro, Infy, Cognizant, HCL, TCS) firm before an MBA in the US and now five years of consulting in the US. The clients know the quality, or lack thereof, of witch firms. MBB is a league above B4 and Accenture, which themselves are leagues above WITCH. Consulting can get real selective and exit opportunities will be much higher from a B4 than from Cognizant even a year or two later.
As an example, my current client is a medical-tech company in the Bay Area, and BCG is their overall topline strategy partner, while Deloitte helps with sales strategy and a bunch of sales-related analytics projects, while Cognizant is their back end operator who manages their server and cloud instance. Technically, Cognizant will call themselves consultants but in reality they are just an IT body shop for them who write their scripts and manage the server with little to no client interaction. This is also why B4 often demotes people coming in from Cognizant and the likes because they don't operate in a consulting landscape typically.
Similar thing happened with me and I haven't joined Deloitte :)
Would suggest go for Deloitte. Ask for counter offer.
Rest understand what's done in both the firms from below explanation and then decide.
Go for Deloitte if you want to work on business aspects.
Health care consulting of Deloitte has strategy/management projects like market sizing or m&a due diligence.
Go for Cognizant if you want to work on implementation aspects.
Cognizant in healthcare consulting will offer technology consulting project like technology solutions implementation with agile/scrum application in project typically for US healthcare payers/providers.
(PS: I worked at both in HC Consulting)
Thank you so much for the insights.
Definitely put some weight on Deloitte in the conversation. More to think about now!

Was in a similar dilemma…
D USI vs EY GDS vs HCL
Asked uncle D to match it or atleast somewhere near to the counter offer…
They did it
What is the right time to speak with HR about the counter offer. Do i need to reach him couple of weeks earlier or at last minute? Please guide me as i have a counter offer like u but willing to join D.
Speak with Deloitte HR, otherwise join CTS. Big4 brand doesn't have anything to do with software engineers.
Hey dude how did u secured interview with cognizant. Naukri ?
Coz there company's job page hardly has any jobs for consultants
Bro if u are not in a modd of marrying for next year or so go for deloitte.. do negotiate but if they dont agree..do join it... I am kinda in same fix though do not have any offer letter as of now 😁😁... Thing is you have to go through Big4 to get credibility as a consultant. So gotta walk through fire now or in future
In how many days HR of cognizantbhas shared offer breakup?
I have cleared both the rounds and received mail from HR to share few documents over mail and now it's been 2 weeks didn't get offer letter yet.
Join Uncle D and you won't be disappointed!
The YoY growth is good and performance pay is on top of CTC. I'm always sceptical of CTS anyway!
Good luck!
Check for a counter offer with D and see if they match it. Even if they do not match the pay, I would suggest you to accept their offer as a big 4 experience would add a lot of value in your professional career and it would be added advantage for you if you get it as early in your career as possible. Just my 2 cents.
Cognizant consulting is a joke. Trust me. Deloitte will be better. Or check other opportunities. Also hikes at cognizant are very low and your growth and compensation will be stagnant.
D offering too less. Ask for counter offer. If denied , join C. In D it will take a min of 2 years to match your current salary offered by C assuminy you are an average performer.
Rising Star
Cognizant on the resume is not a great marker. If you try to break into Big4 they will level you down coming from Cognizant. Whereas Accenture is a brand that is level with B4 so you have more power right now.
Even if you counter to D about a better offer, don’t mention Cognizant, because it is seen as nothing but an IT body shop.
Join Cognizant if current salary is the primary motivator for the switch.
If not, you can think about D, for faster pace of learning.
Deloitte I would say. Also negotiation depends here, be prepared even if they don’t negotiate coz there are other incentives which Cognizant doesn’t provide.
Check the culture of the companies. Deloitte seems to have a better work culture and there must be a reason for Cognizant's 33% attrition levels. The high attrition level also means that you have more chances of solving Cognizant's problems since Deloitte is a better run business. A better run business also has more freedom to remove you from the position and an underdog might not, because it needs you to solve it's problems. Hope you got the idea. By solving problems you can have internal growth and that is how people secure that CEO, COO, CFO, CHRO or CTO positions.
If you are more into functional aspects, go for Deloitte. If you have a knack for technical aspects, go for cognizant.
