Be prepared for everything to cost more from gas to little registration sticker. I had a Nissan rogue for about a year and four months after I graduated from Austin community college don't know why mom wanted me to have so badly. It was a 2012 Nissan rogue greenish color at first filling up on premium gas hurt the wallet a little doing 40 dollars to fill up the tank didn't hurt that bad. The thing that really really sucked was it wouldn't shut up about wanting a god damn oil change every three months. The 90 dollar synthetic oil change really hurts especially when I'm already doing a monthly payment of 377 a month. If I didn't take of it to get it serviced it would literally take over the dash and not show how much gas I had left. And paying for the registration sticker was 120 dollars compared to paying for the registration sticker on my little old Toyota Corolla which was like 73 dollars hurt a lot more. If you can afford a truck go for like Toyota Tacoma or Ford F-150 but be prepared to pay more for everything when it comes to the truck compared to a sedan.
A Nissan rogue compared to a TRD or baby raptor? It sounds like you didn't know much about cars. Plus he wants a midsize truck not a full size. My suggestion would be to do research. I'm sure there are plenty of YouTube reviews and more than likely side by side comparisons. The Toyota will hold its resale a lot better, but it sounds like he doesn't care about that.
If you want it for years get the Tacoma, good luck👍
Taco truck, will last you a while
I have an older Silverado that is just about the same size as the new Rangers and it was larger than I wanted to daily. It sucks in an urban environment, especially parking garages. I bought during the pandemic and since then bought another car as a daily when I started commuting regularly. The gas mileage sucks and friends hitting you with the “oh you’ve got a truck can you help me with…” is real.
I bought it specifically for towing but having a truck is great as a highway cruiser for roadtrips and the 4wd is great for snow/camping.
Tacoma.
It’s going to be a lot of fun and it’s really not going to be that much more expensive esp if you’re already coming from a high HP aka gas guzzling sedan. The midsized trucks aren’t nearly as bad the the full sized, but you can likely expect 18-22mpg, both of those trucks are new so idk the real world mileage on either but that’s a general ballpark. It’s definitely fun to sit up higher and have a better view of traffic. Don’t get over sold on the Taco hype. All cars these days are pretty reliable and Toyotas have their fair share of problems. The old tacos were really garbage to drive, not comfortable seating position and the gearbox was tragic, but the loud fanboys would have you believe it was the best thing in the world. The new Raptor is definitely way more capable to shred in the desert/high speed/jumps, if you’re talking about doing slower rock crawling then it’s not as big of a difference. If you’re not coming from a BMW and don’t have BMW driver tendencies on the highway, I don’t think you’ll regret switching over. If you really enjoy high performance driving on street, then these trucks will definitely leave you wanting more. But day to day, if you don’t need to get active in traffic and don’t need to parallel park much, there’s not a lot of downside (plus you can nail potholes and curbs esp the the TRD Pro/Raptor packages)
Taco
just made the switch from a 2019 Ford Fiesta to a 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. i pay a little bit more but i get to enjoy the versatility of having a 4wd truck again for the first time in 5 years. go for the Taco.
If you are totally urban. Look at a loaded maverick lariat hybrid that is still under 40k
Ranger raptor cool but are you really going off road?
I have a Ranger Lariat that I purchased in 2021. The dealer didn’t have any Raptors so I got the next best thing. I am pleased with it so far.
