Interview for those 50% increase roles and leave.
Don't have even look in the rear view mirror. Do you think that a new manager is going to be able to right something that has been happening since before you both came along? How can another company come in that much higher than your current employer? Five letter answer, GREED.
There’s no way they will go up 50%. Interview for those other roles and jump ship
Just leave
Simple
Leave got those roles. They’ll never go up 50%.
You need to leave. There is no way you will get a 50% increase.
It's not a good time to be moving.
But i would say you should wait for the employment market to improve and look around then. That also gives the new boss an opportunity to make good.
A few years ago back, a colleague got a promotion and a 4% raise, I got no promotion and 2%. So his promotion got him 2% more than me. The promotion process there was quite intimidating, and after that, I resolved I would not put myself through it for 2%, so if you got 14%, that is pretty good.
This is an unsettled job environment right now. I would suggest treading carefully regarding making a move, because last hired, first fired is definitely in play right now in significant ways. I have already known some people who recently chased after the money and got cut in short order. They are back on the job-hunting trail competing against hordes of people also looking for work. Some people have said go ahead and interview for the roles paying 50% more. It really comes down to how much of a risk you want to take. Right now, with the volatility, I think I would stay in a holding pattern for the time being.
Good things to keep in mind for sure, thank you. Yea a lot of people keep saying to interview for the other role but my question is still just about timing on bringing back up salary to my boss lol I am still not considering changing jobs and don’t want to. Just wanna know how to most effectively leverage that sort of data point to get a raise at mid year review
You have to value yourself. No employer will respect anyone that doesn’t value their own talents. Let them know you’re getting offers for higher. It cost money to rehire and retrain people . Just smile and act like you gave them a chance. Example: had a boss that told me “ you know there are other people and jobs out there.” I told him “you are damn right there is !”
He knew I knew I was valuable. If you weren’t you wouldn’t be there. Act like they are lucky to have you. That’s the only way it works.
My honest opinion.
1. What are you looking for. Higher Salary or potential growth in your current career with the current management/company.
FACT 1 - They will not adjust anymore of your salary, if you continue to do well and perform well. Good case scenario they could adjust your salary to may b 10%, bad case they will hold it may be the normal adjustment 5%.
FACT 2. Your company doing a market adjustment to retain you and adjust your salary to match the market rate (say 50% base the external company that contacted you]. You should have a gage % what is the possibility this will happen as you know your company better.
FACT 3. if really true outside is willing to offer you 50% higher. That is your worth value. Give it a try, If you get it, know you have better option and easier to make a good decision for yourself.
REMEMBER: - You own your Career. No people owe anything to you.
14% is a really good raise. On the other hand people don't quit jobs they quit bad managers. Start interviewing. I stayed at a company for many years and i've done well but now finding a new position that seems to be working against me. Bounce!
why bring it up again....just make the move if the pay is 50% higher because they're not giving you a 50% raise.

Please choose the external job. I'm 90% sure nothing will change. Job hoppers always get better pay in the next job, compared to those who stay. Sad, but true.
