Curious how many billable/non-billable hours (not including PTO) most tax partners work each year? Top 20 firm, feel like each year it keeps getting higher and higher due to not having enough staff, when is enough a enough and how do you lower the hours?

Billable hours for partners definitely on the rise. Our leadership basically said start rolling up your sleeves and dig in more than you ever have. What’s funny is that same leadership will be confused in 6 months because they dont understand why realization has plummeted.

I know a high end boutique in LA that needs a tax partner (essentially PCS and Real Estate) and states it will be zero OT - they state 2,000 hours all in including admin.

I started in the industry in 07 for an institutional trading desk and then the recession hit and I got out of sales for management. I was in insurance sales for 2 years prior. 15 years in, I am 100% burnt out and currently taking a 2 week vacation. My wife and I are discussing moving to a new city to get a fresh start but I don’t know if I want to continue my MD path or to leave the industry all together. I’m seriously considering using cash/loans to buy a small company and run that. Thoughts?

How long do you stay on holiday leave for the holiday season?

I have just agreed my new contract which is slightly below average salary rate but I don’t mind as I enjoy the work. However in the past year I’ve contributed a lot and done many overtime hrs every week. So this time I asked for 29 days holidays plus bank holidays. Is this too much to ask? I know this year I’ll end up doing crazy hrs which I don’t mind but in return I just want a longer holiday period.

Looking at HRIS options with a client, 35 staff. They are currently using Namely but it is clunky and doesn’t include some of the things they want (integrated ATS, documents, onboarding and offboarding checklists, time off tracking). ADPRun current payroll and are considering Rippling, BambooHR, and Paylocity. Using JazzHR as an ATS right now but would like to fold that into the HRIS so that they can use those dollars for a more robust perf mgmt system. Any thoughts on these or others?

Need some advice. I just accepted a new position that starts later this summer at the beginning of July. Earlier this year I was approved for 2 weeks PTO at the end of June/early July (getting married). Where I'm at now they do not have unlimited PTO, so there is nothing they owe me when I leave. What would be the best way to handle putting in my 2 weeks notice if I want to try and still get paid my PTO before I leave?

I just got offered a job with a firm that has billable hour requirements. I’ve never had had billable hours. Is is appropriate to ask what the billable requirements are? I have a good idea from someone I know who works in a different department but want to confirm what they told me. They also provided vacation time of 3-5 weeks. I’m assuming that’s work weeks, but is that appropriate to ask for clarification? I don’t want them to think that’s all I care about, but these are important to me.

Elevance Health (formerly Anthem) working on the Beacon side as EAP consultant II. I have my LCSW (got it 4 years ago) but been in the field since 2015.I have been there for one year. Our merit raises are coming up. From what I hear they are quite small typically. Anyone else work here know if it’s a “you get what you get” type deal or is there room to ask for/negotiate more? Currently at 67,104 with 7% yearly bonus. I’m in a very rural, LCOL area in NC. Would prefer to be around 75,000.
