Curious how others handle this. An external recruiter contacted me about a role already posted on a firm’s website (public). Before identifying the firm, they requested my résumé and a call. After confirming it was a public posting, I declined on both items absent clear added value (exclusive search, non-public information, advocacy, etc.). The recruiter then suggested applying directly could reflect poorly and tried to use scare tactics.

How do you handle this?

Did a first interview with hr rep, went very well. she set up the hiring manager meeting for a few days later. Met with the manager. Another great conversation, went over time and was told I’d hear back about panel set up. Following day I get a request from hr rep to “continue the conversation” with manager. This is set up Tuesday.

They asked if I was willing to relocate immediately, and I told him that my decision would be best made if I see an offer.
