Curious to know what base compensation is at Alvarez & Marsal for an associate in restructuring? Thinking about making the switch from FDD.

I’m not in our restructuring group, so I’m just going off what my friend in that group said. Base salaries at A&M are standard within each service line, with Restructuring paying the most. For Restructuring, Associate base salaries should be ~140k and Senior Associates ~$180k. With bonus, you should expect to be somewhere in the mid-high $200k range for total compensation as an Associate. I know there have been some Restructuring Senior Associates who have pulled in $350k total compensation before. You probably already know this, but our bonus is based on collections of billed hours, so it varies from person to person. Hope this helps.

This is only for restructuring (not FDD): Analysts are entry-level from undergrad but can also be experienced hires from investment banking or consulting. I’d say 0-3 years of experience. Associates would have anywhere from 3-6 years, and Senior Associates 6+ years. Directors I would expect 10+ years. Unfortunately I don’t have a good comp estimate for those levels. Keep in mind the total comp can vary dramatically even in the same level due to the nature of our comp structure.

Is it common to switch to restructuring from FDD?

Analysts are typically recruited from undergrad. After that, experienced hires come in post-MBA or from other firms.

Got a verbal offer for a job that I want. The offer is pretty good too, more in line with the work I want to do, 40% raise in base salary, and other benefits are roughly the same. Waiting on the official offer, to come on Monday. The problem is, Stockholm syndrome is real, I keep feeling bad for leaving my team as busy season is kicking off. What are ways to deal with this “guilt”?

I am in the process of negotiating an offer for a new job. At my current job, bonuses will be paid out on august 20th. The bonus is sizable so I would like to stay long enough to obtain it. Ideally, I would wait until the bonus hits my account before I put in my 2 weeks. If the new job wants me to start sooner than august 20th, is it acceptable to say that I want to stay because of the bonus, or should I give a different reason? Is it a bad look if I say I want to stay for the bonus?

Just started at a Family Law firm and am low on work (came from another state so didn't bring my clients with me). It has been a while since I started fresh. I make a decent base salary but I need those billable hours to make more. How long does it take to be busy again!? I've joined an expanding firm and the lead attorney is helping me by giving me tasks to do. Just not as busy as I'm used to (this will be my 3rd week). Just need a pep talk I think 😊

Advise working with a coworker who doesn't "answer the question directly": I just joined a new company and I am starting to work with a coworker but I feel like he tends to deflect my questions all the time and he often gives a vague/BS answer. FOR EXAMPLE, I stepped in reviewing the list of deliverables needed for the project, I provided my input but instead of discussing the actual context, he would just gave me a bunch of historical background information. How do I "cut to the chase"?
