Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

I think this is a very common issue at the moment. I have friends who have been in this searching position for multiple years.
Im curious if anyone has instead taken a position in an accounting dept (just to get their foot in the door), proven themselves, and then made an internal shift to FP&A.
@A1 Basically this was originally sold to me as a great stepping stone to industry but its just not the case. What we do is very niche. We're not accountings making journal entries, we're note analysts making models. And the hours, even at RSM, are just not great. On a normal not busy week I'm working from like 8:30 to 7. on brutal deals I'm working from 8:30 till 11 or midnight. It's ALOT of hours. And now that I'm finally fed up with it and wanting to find something closer to 9 to 6, nobody wants the FDD experience. If its for a private accounting job they're more interested in my time as an auditor at KPMG, which was nearly 4 years ago. If its corporate finance they want to know what modeling we do and oh its none. I would stear anyone away from this career path.
In the same boat. Not really sure how or why people state it’s easy going from TAS -> FP&A. I’ve seen a lot of very qualified people struggle making the transition due to how niche our field is.
Speaking as someone who did the transition a while back I would say it’s definitely not as easy as people make it sound and the people who say that are likely FDDers themselves who hadn’t attempted to make the move. I would say talk to any people you know who made the transition to understand how the FP&A function actually works and also apply to jobs where the hiring manager or teams have a history of coming from accounting backgrounds. They’ll be more willing to give you a shot (that’s how I got my break). At manager level a big gap you’ll have is actually operational experience so having a hiring manager that can overlook this to put trust in your analytical skills will be key
Also curious
Why are you leaving TAS?
Have you tried corporate development? Basically the client side that works with FDD teams in acquiring

Have you tried the “poor mans mba” The CFA?
From what I've been told, CFA is more for going into investments then it is FP&A so it's not really a huge plus.
Just get into accounting advisory which is perfect for people with audit background to scratch the consulting itch. DM and I can see if we have any opening
I made this transition but from analyst in TAS to senior in FPA. Not sure if still looking but feel free to pm
