Currently a Senior Financial Analyst at a bank. I do budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis. But I’m bored. Any ideas of what I can career change into without giving up too much salary? I was approached by financial advisory firm to start a career as a financial advisor but don’t really feel like dealing with clients.

Alright, so that’s what you don’t like about what you’re doing, what do you like?

Yeah I do enjoy the actual modeling and doing new projects. I guess I just hate the repetitiveness of creating board decks, sending out budget reports etc. Someone told me that once you get to a manager position you kind of get out of that and get more into strategy. I just need to stick with it and eventually get promoted.

In a similar boat. I don’t hate it, but I agree with being bored.

I’m graduating in December, with a background in environmental economics and policy. Consulting didn’t work out this cycle. Made it to final rounds for Bain and Kearney but in the end didn’t get an offer. I want to recoup and try again, but I’m worried that once I’m out of undergrad the door will be closed to starting in consulting.

What can I do to make this happen? I have friends and connections at Bain and Kearney and the other firms as well, but not sure if it’s feasible now.

I generally like the work I do and the people I work with, but I really don’t like the hours and the constant late nights and weekends. Currently on pace for 2250. Boutique I have been eyeing has billable hour requirement of 1500-1600 and comes with a 20-25% paycut. Is this a stupid idea and should I grind it out until I can move in house? Will this ruin my opportunities down the road?

I work in a sucky IBM cic, making $54k. It’s a full time job with regular benefits and vacation etc, it’s working with government clients. The job isn’t what I applied for & constantly changes. I don’t like that, but I’m a full time employee which is “stable employment”. Btw, I’m in the DC area.

I just got hired for a government contract through Accenture for a Business Analyst role. Pay is $65 per hour. 3 year contract. Benefits too. No PTO. Holidays off with pay, after 90 days.

Dilemma… I left my old company 4 months ago. Today, they’ve reached out to me to ask me to come back at a higher role, Operations Manager. I would’ve jumped on this opportunity if they asked me before. However, this role would be hybrid (2x in office) and come along with more responsibilities and hours than my current WFH role which is very chill. The pay is only 15% more than I currently make. Any thoughts?
