Dads with older children: while raising your children, did your children prefer their moms over you? I know some will prefer dads over moms, but I assume majority of children out there will prefer their moms over dads… I have one child and it kinda hurts to see my child always preferring the mom over me. I know I shouldn’t feel this way, but I just do. How did you cope with such issue raising your children?

Haha, great question! It might be a tad late in the day to try this, but they recommend skin to skin contact with baby in early infancy to build a bond with the baby. But even if you did this, baby would still have a slight bias for the mom (hard to compete with mothers love & breast milk). Better way might be to build your own unique bond. My baby boy loves to do silly things with me (blowing raspberries, soap bubbles, rolling/lazing around on the carpet, etc). Children are very perceptive and can discern the difference in yours and your wife’s touch and there’s a lot of literature about how important Dad’s role is in raising a baby. Just work on associating baby’s time with you as fun and you’ll notice the difference. Also, please watch “Dads” on Apple+ great documentary on being a dad :)

My husband said he would buy me a Rolex as a “push present” for our first child. I would want just a classic, timeless (no pun intended) looking ladies Rolex watch that I can wear for many years to come. Suggestions on a style? I really don’t know anything about them and would like to get some opinions on what people like since there are so many options.

Hi guys 👋🏻
So I joined IBM 5 months back, was on bench for this long and got project just a week back.

My PSP and People Manager have been kind of lenient, cooperative and kind to me because I was never told I will be put in PIP, I have to enter project not matching my skillset etc etc.

Is it wise to appreciate both of them via blue points for their support?

I just got a mail saying I have 200 bluepoints to send out appreciations if I feel like.

Any parents who are still on the safe side with Covid? We have a 1 year old and being safe and staying mostly home is really getting to me. Any recos on great childcare in New York (ideally west village / Chelsea / Greenwich / soho)?

Our 5 month old started daycare about 5 weeks ago. We’ve already had to keep her home for 2.5 of those 5 weeks due to catching various illnesses (croup, rsv, brinchiolitis, etc). Both my wife and I have been sick most of that time as well (gotten it from the baby). Wife is thinking we get a full time nanny for the next 4 months to help the baby build antibodies. Cost aside, is this feasible / worthwhile to go thru the effort / finding the right fit, only for 4 months?

Consulting Baby Shower question - what was the best baby shower gift you ever received?

We recently sleep trained our 7 month son. He went from waking up multiple times during night and taking only 30 minute naps 3 times during day (most cases nursed to sleep or rocked to sleep or took a drive) to sleeping 12 hours at night without interruption and two 2 hour naps and one 45 minutes nap during day. We both love that he is getting enough sleep and well rested on one hand. On the other hand, we are now wondering if he is sleeping way too much.. contd…
