I know a guy who just made it to senior and then quickly transferred over to a different group...as a senior with no experience in that group.
If you don't want your salary effected why don't you try doing a rotation instead of transfer. Then at the end of the rotation ask for a permanent transfer into that group.
@Pwc I would have to look into the rotation possibility to see if that is an option 👍
Staying in the company just changing department.....
Salary most likely will be impacted. They're not going to pay you as a senior when you're a staff 2. What may happen is they may keep you at current salary if they expect you'll make the jump to senior rather quickly, but the you won't get any raise when you get "promoted" since you're already at the higher salary. Either way you're pushed back by about 1 year in salary.
@senior 1 they suggested I would quickly be promoted by next year so maybe I would stay my my current salary then but ur right I am gonna be push back a year regardless
But in the long run, one year of salary pushed back is worth it if you're truly not happy in what you are currently doing. If you think the other department will be more interesting and will make you happier at work then definitely give it a go. In the long run one year salary push back now won't make a difference, but being happy in your work definitely will.
@ senior 1 I agree which is themain reason I'm tryna make a switch to be happier in the long run... thanks !!!!
Yep it's a good way to get in without your salary changing. Another way around it is to do a rotation and then apply to a different firm and stay as a senior. just make sure you know what you're doing so you don't look like a lousy senior
It all evens out.
