Currently interviewing with Deloitte S&O, what are the salary bands like for a consultant? They are saying they can't bring me in as a senior consultant because I don't meet the 5 yr work experience

If you are making 120 with 2.5 years of exp, you are doing well. I find that hard to believe that you are paid 120k after 2.5 years as 95k for 2.5 years is high because you don’t have that much to offer...

like

I don’t understand how any major corporation can take an RFP process led by a 25 year old seriously. I don’t care how “amazing” you are, but if you compete against in an RFP against a 35 year old partner at MBB / Big 4, you’ll get laughed out of the room. If you are truly doing so great at your current firm and doing partner level work as a 25 year old, you should just stay and demand faster promotions.

Was at Deloitte for a long time. 2.5 years out of undergrad would be *just* getting promoted to Consultant level at Deloitte, no matter the group. 2 years as an analyst + promotion taking affect September with year end being March (2.5 years). The band is probably 95-110 for Cs in S&O, and you’d most likely come in at the 95 level. SCs also usually have more than 5 years experience in S&O if you include MBA in that.

likehelpfulfunny

If you graduated college almost 2.5 years ago, I’d say that the C level would actually be a step up in terms of role

like

Mmmm - I’d agree with your concern. They definitely won’t match 120k. Non MBA high performing SCs I managed we’re making 128-138 in with 6-7 years at Deloitte.

like

@D1 I hate to humble brag. But I'm bringing in new business as a C. That's why I'm a paid a lot.

likesmart

I brought in new business as a C too still did not feel I was worth that kind of coin...wherever you are at, I would stay cause with an entitled attitude like that, you will not last at Deloitte, we are a team culture, not a me culture

like

@D1 Like I said, I didn't want to humblebrag and only wanted to explain why I'm paid so much. I've brought in 50m in pipeline work and closed almost 5 million worth of work. While it might seem like I'm bs'ing you. The most important thing I have is my team that was able to respond and react to deals. I'm nothing without my team.

like

I’d stay at your current company then. For sure not big 4

like

I'm currently at the C role right now pulling in $120k. I just want a name brand and more strategy work. The pay cut is hard to digest.

like

They bring people in as SCs with less than 5 years of experience, especially if you come from consulting. It may be because you're trying to expand out of your niche and come to S&O rather than tech. Consider talking to a tech recruiter, they may bring you in as an SC and match your salary band. SCs salary band is a lot wider than they're saying on here, we bring people from industry who make 170k+ as an SC because we don't want to start them out too high in the org and want them to acclimate and do well.

like

With D4. I know partners with 30 years of exp that can’t do that. OP, if true, great, but I can tell you in my 10 plus years in consulting it seems really hard to believe...

like

So my honest opinion, any big 4 consulting company will keep you at levels for standard amounts of years. Whether it’s 2 or 3 years is based on performance. The boutique and smaller firms are the ones that promote on merit within months.

Also - personally, I wouldn’t consider extensions / CRs selling work (that’s providing excellent delivery and managing scope). RFP is something I’d focus on in interviews and hammer, because those are very competitive, and if you were in final prezzos for that leading that presentation, that’s very impressive. Big difference though, between leading the proposal development and being the face to the client. Additionally, any budgeting / fee discussions I’d consider noteworthy in your interviews

like

I literally just got done with an orals presentation that I led for the technical portion of our response. Total deal size TCV is $37 million. There were 15 stakeholders in the room. It's pouring in NYC and I'm in a cab lol. And it's not like I work for a small company, it's a F200 firm. I just was in the right time and place. I also had some of the best mentorship possible.

like

I believe you OP. I led 20 RFPs last year and managed over $100M+ at the age of 2

like

Assuming I get the role, would it make sense to take a pay cut and a lateral move from tech consulting? Graduated college almost 2.5 years ago.

Damnit. And what I'm seeing is that they certainly don't make exceptions or anything. Shamelessly I'd consider myself a rockstar candidate but maybe it'd be better to wait a few years before making a move.

If they can’t match base (which it sounds like they won’t), you may be able to negotiate a signing bonus. That only lasts a year though.

It’s possible to come in making 120k base.. as an experienced hire.. I know many 1st year Cs at 120 base.. just know that Your raises will not be as large because you are on the highest end of the C band.. and your promotional raise to SC will be small as well to keep you in the SC band range

If you are a rockstar you can do well, get top ratings, be paid good $ and have great growth potential. The initial pay cut will balance quickly (couple of years) but the long term benefits are strong in my opinion

Anyone knows the chances of location being changed after receiving the offer and getting tagged to a project?

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?

Hello recruiters, happy Monday!

I want to know why recruiters ask me in an interview if I am looking at other opportunities, or if I am interviewing at other companies. If I say yes they will ask at what stage I am.

I just want to know the reason behind it and if there is a right answer to this question!

Lyft driver delayed picking me up 30 min, resulting in me canceling my ride and asking hotel to call me a “yellow taxi” to get to the airport because it was 5am and all ubers/lyfts were 15 min. Specifically said yellow. Hotel calls me a private lux SUV and the driver got out of the car to handshake the man who called and said hi (honestly money couldve been passed). I then get hit with a $180 ride. Marriott website says taxi should be $65. Should I complain or let it go?
