Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

I don't get this.... How are you responsible for your own staffing?? You aren't selling the work. I don't understand being canned for low utilization... If you're not a partner/principal/director how is this your problem??
This is the stupidest thing ever. They have this idea that bench=lack of performance but then don't take individual situations into account. If you get laid off, find an employer that values YOU.
As an M2, you are, at that point, selling part of your work. If you cannot get staffed, that is usually an indication that you either do not have a good network or you do not have relevant skills. That being said, managers need a fairly low utilization % for year end so you might be okay for a while if you are doing well on firm initiatives
Super helpful answer coming.... it depends. Now we just need someone from KPMG to comment , so you can get input from every Big4 except the one that should matter to you.
Seriously though, too many factors at play to know. I have seen people get canned after 1 week on the bench and seen others last 3+ months.
My own experience is looking for and marketing your skills keeps you staffed. Build your network in the good times so you aren't SOL in the bad times.

12 weeks.
What's your utilization at? And did you hit your target in FY17? Reach out to your network and beyond!
D3 - yah exceeded my utilization target in 17.
