Hi fishes! My spouse is planning to go to India but we would need to get her visa stamped before coming back. I see that getting appointment is such a huge problem right now. Can we get her visa stamped from a different country? In this case, we were considering Qatar, she grew up there and has her brother there. For what it’s worth she qualifies for Dropbox in India. How do I find out if Qatar works in our case?Deloitte

I need more information. I need to know if you’re eligible for a yearly performance bonus… And I need to know what your counter offer was. Let’s assume it was something like 150… I would probably have said something like ;
Thank you for the updated offer and for including the $2,000 sign-on bonus. While I understand that the base salary is firm, I’m targeting total compensation closer to $150,000 based on my experience and market benchmarks. Would you be open to discussing adjustments in other areas such as a 10,000 sign on bonus and a salary review based on performance at the six month mark? I’m really excited about the role and would love to find a solution that reflects the value I bring to the team. I’m confident we can come to a mutually beneficial agreement.
Location matters, but you have the job and $2K more, that is a win in this economy.
I would have suggested to them to forget the sign-on bonus and add to the salary making it 136k. That way, if you get a percentage bonus or percentage pay raise, that adds to the bonus or pay raises in years to come.
They already said they tried the salary increase negotiating but the company said no. So asking for a $2K higher salary is not going to work. The whole point the company offered a one off sign on bonus is to avoid a higher salary
I'm not expert in your field but I would personal be pretty excited if I were offered that large of a sign-on bonus
$2000 pretty low compared to the yearly amount. As a truck driver I've seen as low as $3000 but as high as $15k. $15 is out of the norm of course average is $3k-5k
ONLY 134k 😂
UPS drivers make $134k annually!?
In this environment, getting a job is a win.
If you are not getting 400k with 10 years of experience, then that is not enough!
Lol. I think you need to git gud and make 400k. Show me the zero correlation analysis on comp and yoe for swe
I am going through the same thing I have almost 29 years in this field and they are paying what I made 29 years ago so sick of this.
@Systems Analyst 1 - who did you work for when you switched to IT? I'd like to get into EHR training, design, and/or consulting myself. Thanks!
Don't be surprised if the first annual review results in them being stingy on a raise. It'll be to balance out that sign on bonus.
I've NEVER EVER MADE ANY WHERE CLOSE TO THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY! SO IF BE THRILLED!! BUT, U KNOW, I'M SURE MY JOB ISN'T VERY IMPORTANT! US NURSES GOT A LITTLE BIT OF RECOGNITION DURING COVID, THEN THAT WAS IT! IT'S OVER!
No need to be angry. They made career choices and so did you. Pay disparity happens and it sucks. Dont disparage them for their choices and what seesm normal in their field.
Only 134K with all of 10 years experience? Take it and calm down
Agreeing here 110% -- a son who is successful now tells me that the "young kids" of 22 all "want it now" without any of the work that normally goes with promotions, etc.
$134K with 10 years in general is ahead of the national average, as the comments here seem to be trending. Average salary charts also indicate this.
Tx 4 haring.
In this job market, something is better than nothing unless you have a comfortable cushion of savings.
Suggestion - Take what is offered. Start the job but keep looking and once the perfect opportunity comes your way, give notice and run off to greener pastures. Employers layoff workers, sometimes with no compassion or dignity or respect. Therefore, it is equally fine to leave a company for another if the new opportunity proves to be more promising. Good luck!
Very good advice!
Depends on the state 134k is not bad
But 2k sign off bonus - i dont think we will get much after the tax cut 😅
A sign-on bonus is just a carrot. 🥕 tbh, you got suckered in.
I agree. I am not tantalized by signing bonuses anymore. If you got a $10,000 signing bonus, you only get $6,000 cuz Uncle Sam. But if you leave the company you have to pay the full $10,000.
Coach
Give me $134k. Lol
Only $134k? I have 30 years exp and barely make that. you won take the offer.
Be lucky you're even offered a 6-figure salary my guy, most of us don't even get that.
Not true. The the market is bad true whatever was they do offer in IT it's the normal rate just more competition. At least in FTE roles at large end clients. Consulting is another story.
The question is do you have another offer? Do you need the work? Don't put yourself in a bind by holding out right now. The market isn't that great.

I’m 8 years in my career and I make about the same lol. BUT I’m sure your industry is different. You should research what is the market salary is for people who do your job in your industry in your city.
With 10 years of experience and especially in this economy I would consider an offer of $134,000 to be a blessing (unless you live in NYC).
Agreed, Mgr, Appl Devlpmnt, and even in any of the "outer Boroughs" of NYC that's still enough to live out of the streets.
